General Motors Awards Contracts for Li-ion Battery Development
General Motors recently announced that they have agreement on the development of advanced lithium-ion batteries out. The above batteries will be part of General Motors E-Flex system. This step is a step forward in the Chevy Volt a production vehicle.
Thirteen companies have exceeded their technical proposals, carmakers General Motors and elected only two companies in the whole. The contracts awarded by General Motors, for the development of batteries used in the two variants of the E-Flex system. One of the two companies will be issued with the order, Compact Power Inc., headquartered in Troy, Michigan. Lithium-ion battery supplier is a subsidiary of LG Chem, a Korean company. General Motors also announced that it will continue looking for ways to develop advanced Automotive Lithium-ion batteries, bringing it to market faster.
”The signing of these battery development contracts is an important next step to actually realizing Volt,” said General Motors Chairman and CEO Rick Wagoner. “Given the enormous potential that the Volt is its E-Flex system offers to reduce low oil consumption , oil and carbon dioxide emissions, a top priority for General Motors, he added.
